Even though social media is a relatively new concept in the grand scheme of things, it is hard to imagine a time before it existed. Practically everything is now driven by social media. People consult their friends before buying a product, most users find out about the latest news through social media, and what is now more important to people than their morning coffee? Social media.

Whether we like it not, social media is a part of our daily lives and businesses that do not adapt to the changing times get left behind. If parents have to consult Facebook to stay updated with their kid’s lives, then they will also consult Facebook to learn about you. The question is; how do you use social media as a tool to drive traffic to your business’s website?

Frequently Post Engaging ContentSocial Media Traffic

As you slowly build up your fan base by spreading the word about your company, you must keep your audience engaged and interested in you. If you post something that gets shared by others, that link could spread like wildfire, getting your fan page more and more exposure.

Target Your Audience

Your posts must be interesting to the kind of audience your product or service appeals to. For example, if you sell auto parts, do not post pictures of fluffy bunnies or write quotes about falling in love. Those kinds of updates would appeal to younger women who are most likely not shopping for their own car parts. Something about the latest Audi R8 design would be far more appropriate and your readers may even choose to re-post it.

Keep People Updated on the Company

Naturally, you do have to post about your company once in awhile in order to get some traffic. Make sure these updates are infrequent and not overbearing. One update every other week is a good goal to keep. People don’t like being solicited.

Make your updates very personal. Fans do not want to feel like they are a just a number to you. By giving them a glimpse into your daily life, they start to think they know you personally. This builds trust in you and your business. Simple updates about the long day remodeling the new office are great because it helps your fans relate to you.

Here are a few more ways to personalize your posts:

  • Tag your location every chance you get
  • Tag your fans if it is appropriate
  • Use hash tags if you are targeting a younger audience

Schedule Your Updates

The problem with Facebook is that your posts gradually get moved to the bottom of the news feed. This is an issue when you want the maximum amount of people to view it. Plan your posts in advance so that you can send them out at the best time of day. Avoid office hours during the week and opt for evening posts. On the weekend this is less necessary, but evenings still seem to be when Facebook gets the most traffic.

Make Posts Attractive and Personal

Lastly, your posts should be attractive and appealing. Keep the formatting correct, check your grammar, and post images whenever possible. Images catch your eye as you scroll down the news feed so use them as often as you can. Personal photos are even better. Post pictures of your products, building, and even your family if you are willing to do so.
